Drawings
Just a taste of the drawings I have been working on this term. It is a mix of drawing in my sketchbook, adobe Photoshop and zbrush.
Much needed updates
So, I decided to dump a lot of updates on the site. The past few months have been very busy. I just finished up working on a zombie movie here in Regina (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/27091/) and have been getting back on track in the studio. These are three sculptures that I am currently finishing up. I have decided to just finish the sculptures, make a mould and then paint them all at the end of this term. I have been moving furiously along this term on these sculptures and drawings.
Progressing
I have decided to stay in the habit of constantly updating this site with the progress I am making in the studio. Not only for friends and family to see, but for my own benefit. Making some of these sculptures can be a real blur from beginning to end and seem a little chaotic. So, documenting everything will give me a sense of order and some perspective of my studio practice.
In these photos I have started sanding the two blobbed forms and have fixed them into the wall. I have finished sculpting the figure to a stage where I am happy with. The figure has changed quite a bit from the first time I took a photo of it. I seemed to of kept taking off more and more clay each time I sat down to clean it up. My goal was to create something a little more dynamic when the light hit it by accentuating the facial structure. It is almost baby faced in the previous posts. In the last photos I have made a wall around the sculpture so I can start mould making. The pink stuff you see is silicone.
People are probably looking at this and thinking, “what the hell is going on here?” I will try to explain the work more in the next posts. I’m doing my MFA, I have to talk about my work sometime!
Studio tour
After my first two terms in my MFA I needed a detox from academics and some time to get back on my feet. Instead of jumping into the studio a guns a blazin’ and making a new sculpture I decided to slow things down a bit. Throughout the Spring/summer terms I have been taking two classes to focus on my drawing and making some maquettes. The whole point behind these two classes is to go through as many ideas as I can before deciding what I am going to make. It is about planning and coming up with a clear idea, so when I am ready for full on production in the studio, I can focus on that and not get sidetracked. It is very easy to start working on something and then change your mind slightly causing you to take a couple steps back. So, hopefully now I can produce some more work because when this is all done I have to show at the Mackenzie Gallery here in Regina. I have finally started producing some work and have just finished this new website. Here are some pictures of my studio, with some work I am producing.
